 | The New Turn On is a mix of 80s, 90s and more recent pop, rock and 'doof-doof', with Australian artists a feature. In between are reviews and general banter about current TV shows, including new comedy, sitcoms, ratings wars, big TV 'events' and especially latest updates on reality shows such as The Biggest Loser and Big Brother! Emma has been presenting The New Turn On since late 2005. Early in 2005 she came into 3WAY to have a look during 'Turn On, Tune In and Drop Out', hosted by work colleagues and experienced 3WAY stars Michael Mance and Jeff Keith on Thursday afternoons from 4 til 6. Mike and Jeff quickly incorporated her into the program, teaching her the skills involved in presenting a radio show and allowing her to fill in for them on occasionsÉ quite nerve-wracking stuff! At the end of 2005, with Mike leaving Warrnambool and Jeff becoming unavailable to begin at 4pm, she began her solo community radio career; the 4 to 5 timeslot evolving into 'The New Turn On', followed by Jeff's own 'Disclalia' from 5 til 6. A slick combination! With our busy work schedules as teachers, you may find Jeff or I filling in for each other for the whole two hours, or Mona continuing with her 'Afternoon Delight' for an extra half hour and handing over to Jeff at 4.30 if I'm off doing something else. This ability and willingness to help each other out is one of the great things about 3WAY and community radio. I have also been able to give a few students and friends a look into the world of community radio, and during 2007 I hope to introduce to you some more 'special guest co-hosts'! In May 2006 I participated in a weekend 'writing and reading radio news' course at the Melbourne Radio School, which I thoroughly enjoyed and gave me even more enthusiasm for doing radio. It also brought a little bit closer the possibility of trying to get into the radio or TV industry in the future..! So 'Turn On' Thursdays at 4pm - hope you enjoy the show! |
